We are proud to announce our sponsorsorship of Angus Whiteside in his first season driving the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for the 2022 season.
25 year-old Angus will be driving for Rochdale-based Toro Verde GT professional racing team in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
Last year, Angus won the Ginetta GT Academy; his first ever season in cars after previously racing karts for a number of years. Angus secured his rookie title with three races to spare. He even won the overall championship at the final round.
Angus’s season highlight was when he took pole position at Snetterton by over half a second. To date, Angus has won 12 times in 15 races in various classes and never finished lower than 2nd.
Angus said: “Driving for Toro Verde GT in the Porsche Carrera GB Cup is a big step up; but one I feel totally prepared for. I’m coming on the back of a title-winning season in the Ginetta GT Academy. I have already tested my 992 cup car and I can’t wait for racing to begin.
“The support of sponsors will be crucial this season. I’m delighted that Porsche Centre Preston believes in my ability to compete in this, my rookie year in this prestigious race series. I'm especially pleased to be working with a dealership so close to my Ribble Valley roots and grateful that they have agreed to be part of the season’s adventure.”
Although Angus was born in Guildford and lives in Sussex, it is his Ribble Valley roots which alerted us to the opportunity to sponsor one of the most exciting young drivers in the country. Angus’s Mum, Andrea Whiteside, lives in Old Langho, Lancashire and his sister Emily owns and runs equestrian centre Northcote Stud.
The sponsorship agreement with Angus will see our centre's name featured on the car livery. The deal also includes exclusive track days and a chance for our customers to meet Angus at an end-of-season celebration in the showroom later in the year.
Our managing director, Tom Fox said: “Angus is an amazing prospect. We are especially excited to be supporting him in his first season at this level. His performances so far give us every confidence that his Porsche Carrera Cup GB adventure will be a season to remember.
“Andrea, his mum, is a valued friend of the centre. So, there is an element of good fortune that we were able to support Angus. To be involved at this early stage of his career feels like a genuine partnership; with both him and his Rochdale-based team Toro Verde. Like Angus, we are excited for the season to begin.”
The season begins on the weekend of April 23rd with the first two rounds at Donnington Park. The season ends 16 rounds later at Brands Hatch on October 9th. Over 25 drivers are expected on the grid for this, the competition’s 20th year.
The race for the 2022 season will feature a brand new car; the same one for all competitors. Since all the cars are the same the only differentiation is the driver. The championship has proven to be a springboard to different motorsport careers, with Formula 1 and LEMAN Le Mans drivers making appearances in the championship in the early parts of their careers.
Toro Verde GT are returning to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB after previously winning the championship with their driver Tio Ellianas in 2018, after competing in the European Lamborghini Huracan series.
