Porsche powers ahead in 2022 What Car? Car of the Year Awards.
The new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo has been named ‘Performance Car of the Year’ by What Car? magazine in its annual Car of the Year Awards.
This is the second year in a row the all-electric Porsche sports car has taken the crown. The Taycan is the first purely battery electric Porsche and since going on sale in 2019 has sparked a revolution in how EV sports cars perform. Underlining this, the Taycan was the best-selling car in 2021 for Porsche Cars GB, its popularity driven by a unique combination of attributes including typical Porsche performance, innovative connectivity solutions and everyday usability. The UK is the German manufacturer’s fourth-largest market globally and the second-largest for Taycan sales.
Joining the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo on the winners’ podium was the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, which was named Sports Car of the Year. In GTS 4.0 guise, the mid-engine two-seater coupé adds an emotive flat-six ‘boxer’ powertrain to the familiar Cayman credentials of dynamic agility and sleek styling.
In addition, three further Porsche sports cars received Best Buy awards; the iconic 911 GTS coupé; the four-wheel drive, four door Macan; and the Cayenne Coupé GTS.
Each winner is a recommendation by What Car? magazine as one of the very best cars to buy, and the success of the Taycan endorses the design brief of the all-electric Porsche to be the sports car of its segment.
